The Leader of Hull City Council has signed off a plan that will see local ward funds, known as ‘Community Initiative Budgets (CIB)’, boosted by Hull City Council.
The budgets are used at the ward level and allow local ward councillors to support projects that benefit the social, environmental and economic wellbeing of the area.
It comes as a large number of local councillors have made use of their Community Initiative Budgets to carry out council-delivered projects, such as ‘Bring Out Your Rubbish Days’.
The additional allocation amounts to £3,750 per ward, amounting to £78,750 in total, and comes in light of increased demands to fund popular initiatives such as Bring Out Your Rubbish Days.
Where the Community Initiative Budgets are used to fund Bring Out Your Rubbish Days, eligible residents will be contacted by the council confirming details, including dates, information about what type of waste can be disposed of and where to leave unwanted items.
The scheme is offered free of charge and is in addition to the annual free collection available to residents in the city, where households are eligible for one bulky item collection of up to 5 single items in a 12-month period.
Any additional collections are subject to a minimum charge of £5.
You can find out more through the Council’s website, Bulky collections | Hull.
Local ward councillors are also able to use Community Initiative Budgets to fund community groups, charities and other agencies.
The Leader of Hull City Council, Councillor Mike Ross, said: “We want to make Hull a cleaner, greener and safer place, and that’s why I’m announcing this new investment.
“This funding can be spent by local councillors to fund popular Bring Out Your Rubbish Days, support local communities, and keep communities safer.
“By doing this, we’re delivering on the Community Plan and helping make the city a better place for all.
“Working with local groups, the funding can help achieve more welcoming neighbourhoods, a healthier and fairer Hull, and assist us in reaching the city’s full potential.”
