A call has gone out to businesses, organisations and individuals to come up with most eye-catching creations possible for the 2026 Lord Mayor’s Christmas Tree Festival.

Councillor Maria Coward will officially open this year’s event at Hull Minster on Tuesday 1 December, with the festival running all the way up until Christmas Eve.

Those that participate are asked for a minimum donation of £10 per tree, with all proceeds going to the Lord Mayor’s Charity Appeal Fund.

The Lord Mayor said: “The Christmas Tree Festival at Hull Minster has been going for less than a decade, but has become a popular event with people coming into the city centre during the festive period.

“It’s free to get into Hull Minster to see the dozens and dozens of amazing trees, where businesses and groups from across our area really do a great job with the decorations, as well as explaining the stories behind them.

“A visit to the festival is an excellent way to get into the Christmas spirit, and I’m really looking forward to seeing what this year’s trees will look like.”

Lights are permitted on the trees, but must be battery operated only.

Decorators will set up their trees at Hull Minster on Monday 30 November between 9am and 3pm.

Trees must then be taken down and collected on Monday 4 January between 9am and 3pm.

As an additional measure for this year, the Lord Mayor has pledged to donate a Christmas tree to someone in the city to help spread some Christmas cheer.

The Lord Mayor added: “I really want to brighten up someone’s Christmas, particularly at a time when we know people are struggling with the cost of living.”
