Permission has been granted for the demolition of the former BHS building in Hull city centre.
As part of the wider Albion Square project, planning permission was required to demolish the building ahead of the site being transformed into a high-quality, mixed-use development.
Part of the permission also includes the erection of a specialist steel support structure to the rear of the Three Ships Mural and the erection of temporary hoarding to the site boundary, for which preparatory works began this week.
The specialist steel support structure will ensure the mural’s Grade II listed status is preserved during the demolition and future construction works.
The council’s formal procurement process to secure a lead development partner for the Albion Square project is reaching its conclusion, with a preferred bidder expected to be announced shortly.
