Hull City Council is preparing to begin a three-month carriageway resurfacing scheme on Falkland Road in Marfleet, east Hull.
The scheme is vital to repair and resurface the concrete carriageway – which is showing signs of deterioration – to ensure the road provides a safe, even surface for all users, with improved grip and skid resistance.
Works will include resurfacing the road, repairing the concrete road beam and replacing kerbs and footpath crossings, as well repainting the road markings.
The work will start on Monday 11 May and is planned to be completed by Friday 7 August, weather permitting.

To maintain safety and reduce disruption on residents and businesses, the scheme will be delivered in five phases:
- Phase one: Monday 11 to Monday 25 May. Road closure from the Annandale Road junction to 25 Falkland Road. Diversion route in place via Wexford Avenue and Ashwood Avenue.
- Phase two: Wednesday 27 May to Thursday 18 June. Road closed from 25 to 33 Falkland Road, adjacent to Southwell Avenue. Diversion routes in place via Ashwell Avenue, Hemswell Avenue and Falkland Road, or Wexford Avenue and Ashwood Avenue, depending on the direction of travel.
- Phase three: Friday 19 June to Friday 3 July. Road closure from 33 to 91 Falkland Road adjacent to Howell Avenue. Diversion routes in place via Ashwell Avenue, Hemswell Avenue, Dodswell Grove and Southwell Road, or Wexford Avenue and Ashwood Avenue depending on the direction of travel. Closed at Falkland Road junction.
- Phase four: Monday 6 to Monday 20 July. Road closure from 91 Falkland Road to Bamford Avenue. Lane closures and access through available. Diversion in place via Bamford Avenue and Salford Avenue.
- Phase five: Wednesday 22 July to Wed 5 August.Road closed fromBamford Avenue junction to the bus turn-round (end of Falkland Road). Diversion route via Bamford Avenue and Salford Avenue. Closed at Salford Avenue junction.
The work will take place between 8am and 5pm, Monday to Friday.
Residents and businesses have received advance notice via letter drop and information boards have been placed on site.
Pedestrian footpaths will remain open throughout the scheme. Bin collections will continue as normal and emergency access will be maintained where possible.
However, driveways within the work area will not be accessible. Residents are advised to park vehicles outside the closure area while work is ongoing. It will not be possible to drive through the work site once work is underway.
The bus stops along Falkland Road will be suspended during the scheme. Notices will be placed at the bus stops giving more details about service changes.

Angela Blake, assistant director of major projects and infrastructure at Hull City Council, said: “This section of the carriageway is showing signs of deterioration, so it’s important that we carry out these essential repairs.
“Not only will this work help futureproof our road network, but it will also ensure the route remains safe for all users.
“We understand that any roadworks can cause inconvenience and we appreciate the patience and understanding of residents, businesses and road users while these essential improvements are delivered.”
The scheme will be carried out by Wright Civil Engineering Ltd on behalf of the council.
Please be aware that the dates for this scheme are weather dependent and subject to change.
