Hull City Council’s Supported Internships team has collaborated with partners to organise a host of upcoming events and information sessions on September 2026 applications.

The structured work-based programme is aimed at 16 to 24-year-olds with SEND who have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) and who want to access the world of work, but may need a little extra support to get there.

The core aim of Supported Internships is for those young people to learn the skills they need to gain paid, meaningful and sustainable employment.

Run by the council’s Learning and Skills team, partners for Supported Internships include Humberside Police, City Health Care Partnerships, Asda and Siemens Mobility, whilst both Hull College and East Riding College also run their own programmes.

The programme also ties in with the Hull’s SEND Strategic Plan 2024-27.

The upcoming events will be a mix of online sessions and open days, starting next month and running into 2026 and are for CHCP and Asda programmes:

In addition to the above dates, the council will be hosting, two further events, starting at The Edge Hub on Monday 3 November from 4-5:30pm where all Supported Internships programmes will be discussed. You can book your place here.

This will be followed on Wednesday 22 April 2026 from 10am – 5pm at Princes Quay ground floor events space detailing SEND Post 16 Options and Preparation For Adulthood, an annual event which showcases education, health, social care and many other services and support, available to our SEND young people.

Cllr Linda Tock, portfolio holder for children’s services at the council, said: “Supported Internships is a fantastic example of partnership working across Hull and the region.

“The success stories which have already come out of the programme are brilliant to hear and I have no doubt we will hear of more in the future as these young people contribute to the region’s economy.

“It’s a great initiative and I urge anyone eligible to go along to one of the many events to find an internship tailored to them.”
