School children have been busy making Hepworth’s Arcade spookier than ever this Halloween.
The famous arcade, the country’s only L-shaped arcade, has been decorated with ghosts, pumpkins and various spooky surprises thanks to children from all over the city.
Lucy Lines, Trinity Market manager, said: “With the maintenance work currently taking place in the arcade and the all the scaffolding that is temporarily obscuring some of its beautiful features, we wanted to make it a bit more welcoming and inviting for visitors.

“Halloween is a fantastic opportunity to get creative, we just needed a bit of help, and that’s where the school children came in.
“They’ve done an incredible job of decorating the arcade and I can’t wait for people to see what they have done.”
The schools that took part in the decorating were Woodland Primary School, Maybury Primary School, Chiltern Primary School, Bricknell Primary School, Sutton Park Primary, St Mary Queen Of Martyrs Voluntary Academy, Stoneferry Primary School, Paisley Primary School and Broadacre Primary School.

India Pickering, art coordinator at Broadacre Primary School, said: “As art coordinator at Broadacre Primary I felt it was very important to give the children of our school the opportunity to take part in decorating a building in their local city.
“The children were thrilled to create pumpkins, hedgehogs and owls as these were things they thought symbolised autumn and Halloween.
“Children across the school participated in the task and we thoroughly enjoyed it!”
Visitors to the arcade are asked to practice social distancing and follow public health guidance.
