Stay warm, stay safe, save cash
With colder weather and darker evenings approaching, now is a good time to make sure your home is ready for autumn and winter.
- Make sure you let us attend for your annual gas safety check, as any problems with your boiler or hot water can be picked up during the visit.
- If your radiators are not heating up properly, please contact the Council to report a repair. A radiator that is cold, only warm at the bottom, or taking a long time to heat up may need attention.
Reporting problems early can help keep your home comfortable during the colder months.

Need support with money?
Don’t struggle alone with money worries this winter or over Christmas.
If you’re having problems paying your rent, contact the Council as soon as possible. The earlier you get in touch, the more we can do to help and advise you.
You can also find support with money, benefits, debt and energy bills through Hull City Council’s Help with Money service and Citizens Advice Hull & East Riding.
Asking for support early can prevent small problems from becoming bigger ones.
Save money on energy bills
Small changes can make a difference:
- Close curtains after dark to keep in the warmth.
- Keep radiators clear so warm air can circulate.
- Boil only the amount of water you need in the kettle.
- Turn off lights and electrical items when they are not in use.
- Keep windows and doors fully closed when the heating is on.
