We have received reports of claims companies (‘claims farmers’) contacting tenants and claiming to be solicitors or acting on behalf of legal firms.
In some cases, individuals have visited tenants at home and falsely claimed to be from Hull City Council or to be acting on the Council’s behalf. Their aim may be to encourage tenants to pursue housing disrepair claims against the Council.
Please be aware:
- Hull City Council will never instruct a third party to contact you and encourage you to make a housing disrepair claim.
- Hull City Council officers will always identify themselves and explain the purpose of their contact. If you are unsure whether someone is genuinely from the Council, contact us directly to verify their identity.
- If you have concerns about repairs, damp or mould, please contact us directly so we can address the issue as quickly as possible.
- You do not need to use a claims company to report problems with your home.
- Some claims companies may charge fees or take a percentage of any compensation you receive.
If you are contacted unexpectedly by someone claiming to be from a solicitor’s firm, a claims company, or Hull City Council, ask for their name, organisation and contact details, and use caution before sharing any personal information.
Our priority is to keep residents safe and to resolve issues in your home promptly. If you have concerns about repairs, damp, mould, or the condition of your property, please contact us through the MyHousing App or by calling (01482) 300 300.
All Hull City Council staff and contractors carry official identification and will show it on request. If you are unsure whether a visitor, caller or email is genuine, please contact Hull City Council on (01482) 300 300 for advice before providing any information.
