A state-of-the-art year-round sports provision has opened in west Hull.
A purpose-built 3G all-weather pitch with dedicated changing facilities at Costello Playing Fields provides a high-quality provision for community user groups during peak times, such as evenings and weekends, with bookings now available.
The 3G pitch boasts a full-size football and rugby pitch, as well as four 5-a-side football pitches, two 7-a-side football pitches and one 9-a-side football pitch.
Improvements will benefit the general public, students, sports clubs and park runners on what is currently a site prone to flooding.
The scheme was commissioned by Hull City Council and delivered by Hull Esteem Consortium Limited and Sewell Construction.
Cllr Jackie Dad, deputy leader of the council and portfolio holder for culture and leisure, said: “This is an exciting new facility at Costello Playing Fields, one which is accessible and versatile for our community.
“The council has made considerable investment in the project, taking on board public opinion about the site and incorporated that into the development.
“To have another state-of-the-art sports facility for the people of Hull, including residents, sports club members and, in particular, its students and young people, is fantastic.”

The facilities were formally opened by Cllr Maria Coward, Lord Mayor of Kingston upon Hull and Admiral of the Humber.
She added: “I was delighted to be able to open the new all-weather pitch and changing facility at Costello Playing Fields.
“It’s a great facility for all the community and I look forward to it being used by the community.”
The site is being used by Hull College during the day during term time.
