Hull City Council is set to begin pedestrian improvement works on Inglemire Lane.
The scheme will include footway improvements and the installation of a new pedestrian build-out on the southern side of Inglemire Lane, near to the University of Hull’s Allam Sports Centre.
The build-out will extend the footway into the road, reducing the crossing distance and improving visibility for both pedestrians and motorists.
Work is scheduled to begin week commencing Monday 10 August and is expected to take approximately six weeks to complete, weather depending.
During the works, footway closures will be in place on the northern side of Inglemire Lane, to accommodate the resurfacing work, and temporary give-and-take traffic management will be used while the pedestrian build-out is constructed.
The improvements form part of the council’s commitment to maintaining and enhancing the city’s walking infrastructure, encouraging Active Travel, and helping residents travel safely and confidently on foot.
Councillor Mark Ieronimo, cabinet portfolio holder for transport and infrastructure, said: “Inglemire Lane is a well-used route for people travelling to and from local schools, the University of Hull and nearby sports facilities, so it is important that pedestrians can move around the area safely and with confidence.
“Investing in walking infrastructure is a key part of our commitment to supporting active travel, creating safer neighbourhoods and encouraging more people to choose healthier and more sustainable ways to travel.
“This scheme has been made possible thanks to partnership working between the council and the University of Hull, in response to concerns raised by the local community.
“Although we have planned the works to take place largely during the school summer holidays to minimise disruption, we appreciate there may still be some inconvenience and would like to thank residents and road users for their patience while the improvements are completed.”
This scheme has been funded by both Hull City Council and the University of Hull following concerns raised by local residents, sports groups and the university about pedestrian safety in the area.
The programme will be delivered by Redevelop Civil Engineering on behalf of the council.
