We’re increasing investment in Hull City Council homes over the coming year (2026/27), spending £98m to improve current properties and build new affordable homes.
This year’s planned programme, from April 2026 to March 2027, will see an 11% rise in the number of property improvements and installations from the previous year, totalling almost 32,000.
As well as upgrading existing homes, we are also planning to build new affordable homes.
Here’s some of what we are doing:
- 300 homes will get replacement windows
- 19,000+ extractor fans to combat the risk of damp and mould
- 150 electrical rewires and 3,200 new smoke alarms
- 1,200+ new kitchens and bathrooms
- Almost 2,000 heating systems and new insulation to improve energy efficiency
- New roofs, external doors and adaptations for almost 2,500 homes
- Fire safety improvements
- Disabled adaptations to homes
- 145 new-build homes and purchase and refurbishment of existing empty homes
Many of these improvements have been made possible through Home Condition Surveys. The surveys, which we carry out every five years, help us better understand the condition of Council homes, such as bathroom, kitchen, windows, roofs and external doors, etc and prioritise where improvements are needed most.
Over the next 10 months we aim to complete 10,000 home condition surveys – not to check how you live in your home, but to see if it needs any improvements. If you receive a letter to tell you your home is on the list for a survey, please make sure you can keep the appointment, so we can check your home is safe and of a good standard.
If your home is on any of our improvement programmes, we will send you a letter before any works begin.
This year’s programme continues to build on our significant ongoing investment in our homes and our communities. These improvements amount to a capital investment of £98m, taking the overall investment in homes to more than £183m in the past two years as part of our commitment to providing homes that are safe, secure and maintain the Government’s Decent Homes standard.
