A final appeal is being made for children’s Christmas jumpers that can be donated and reused.
Hull City Council is taking in donations, which are given to local families via the city’s schools.
The donations are then used during the annual Christmas Jumper Day, which this year takes place on Thursday 12 December.
Donations need to be made by this Sunday, 8 December, and they can be dropped off at the following locations:
- The Orchard Centre
- The Wilson Centre
- Bransholme Health Centre
- Any branch of Beercocks Estate Agents.
Elizabeth Dillon, policy and partnership manager for Hull City Council, said: “We know that Christmas can be a tough time of the year for families, with all kinds of different things that need paying for, so we hope this scheme can be a help.
“We’d be really grateful if residents could have a rummage through their wardrobes for any Christmas jumpers their kids no longer use – and even smaller adult sizes would do as well.”
Councillor Charles Quinn is portfolio holder for environment, with responsibilities including waste management and sustainability.
He said: “This really is a win-win, where the people of the city are doing their bit for the planet by recycling clothes they no longer need, and it’s sparing others the burden of having to shell out for yet another thing at this time of year.
“The jumpers can of course be used for other festive activities – not just Christmas Jumper Day – and I thank anyone who has already donated or is planning to do so.”
