More than 1,500 year 6 students from across Hull have taken part in a two-week training programme to prepare them for the transition from primary to secondary school.

‘Kid Alert’ is organised annually by Hull City Council and is administered and coordinated by First Step Sports Group, with pupils receiving lessons on how to keep safe during the summer holidays and beyond.

The programme, which took place at the MKM Stadium, saw children rotated through several different lessons covering various topics, including:

  • Cycle safety – delivered by Hull City Council
  • Road safety – delivered by Safer Roads Humber
  • First aid – delivered by the NHS

Councillor Linda Tock, cabinet portfolio holder for children’s services at Hull City Council, said: “Preparing our children for the move from primary school to secondary school is an important step in their young lives and often comes with more independence, whether it be socialising with friends or getting to and from school.

“It is vital that we give them the knowledge and skills they need to stay safe.

“I’m therefore delighted that so many children completed Kid Alert, and I would like to thank our schools and our partners for all the work they have put into making this year’s programme a success.”
