Hull City Council has announced that work to install two new parallel crossings in east Hull will begin next week, improving safety and accessibility for pedestrians and cyclists.
The crossings will be installed on Marfleet Lane and Midmere Avenue as part of the council’s ongoing commitment to creating safer roads and encouraging active travel across the city.
The new crossing on Midmere Avenue, will be installed adjacent to the eastern entrance of Winifred Holtby Academy, providing a safer crossing point for pupils, staff, residents and other road users. The construction of this crossing will take place from Monday 27 July until Friday 21 August 2026.
The second crossing on Marfleet Lane will be located on the bridge over the Holderness Drain, helping to further improve connections for pedestrians and cyclists travelling through the area. The construction of this crossing will take place from Monday 7 September until Friday 2 October.
To allow for the installation of anti-skid surfacing and replacement road markings, a one-day road closure will be required on Wednesday 30 September, with a signed diversion route in place.
Councillor Mark Ieronimo, cabinet portfolio holder for transport and infrastructure at Hull City Council, said: “Improving safety on our roads is a top priority, and these new crossings will make a real difference for people in east Hull.
“The crossing outside Winifred Holtby Academy will give pupils, parents and staff a much safer way to get in and out of school, while the new crossing on Marfleet Lane will help pedestrians and cyclists travel through the area with greater confidence.
“We know these works can cause some disruption, so I’d like to thank residents for their patience while we get this important work done.”
The work will be undertaken by local contractor, PBS Construction, on behalf of the council.
