Hull City Council is advising motorists and the travelling public of a temporary southbound road closure that will be in place for around six weeks for vehicles travelling on Holwell Road, between the Wawne Road/Bude Road roundabout and the Bransholme/Honiton Road roundabout, from Monday 5 October 2026.
The partial closure is required to allow the council’s contractor, Hessle-based CR Reynolds Ltd, to continue with ongoing carriageway widening and reconstruction works to increase the roundabout’s capacity, improve traffic flows in the area and ensure it is ready for the future demands of the network.
The works will also improve the long-term condition of the carriageway, helping to reduce the need for future maintenance and disruption.
Ahead of the closure coming into effect, an existing westbound closure on Wawne Road (East) will be removed and the road reopened to all traffic.
All southbound traffic travelling along Holwell Road, including buses, will be required to follow a signed diversion via Wawne Road (East) and Honiton Road. Northbound traffic will be unaffected.
Councillor Mark Ieronimo, cabinet portfolio holder for transport and infrastructure, said: “As a council, we fully appreciate how frustrating roadworks can be, but these improvements are an investment in Kingswood’s future and will make sure that the area can meet any future demand placed on the network.
“As the area continues to grow, it’s vitally important that we improve the flow of traffic on Kingswood’s roads and ensure that they have the necessary capacity to keep people moving freely and safely.
“The next phase of works on the Wawne Road/Bude Road roundabout require a temporary southbound closure of Holwell Road so that we can carry out some of the most significant engineering work quickly and efficiently. By planning the works carefully and keeping traffic moving in one direction, we’re reducing disruption wherever possible.
“I’d like to thank residents, businesses and everyone travelling through this area for their continued patience while these works are carried out. I’d also encourage motorists and the travelling public to plan ahead and allow a little extra time for their journeys while this phase of works is completed.”
Once the southbound works are completed, it will be necessary to switch to a partial closure northbound to complete the works in the area. This is anticipated to happen in mid-November.
