Visit from Chinese school connects Hull and Beijing

Students and staff from a school in China have visited Hull.

110 students aged 9-15 and 20 staff from Fengtai District of Beijing in China have spent four days in the city.

They spent three days at Winifred Holtby Academy in East Hull before spending time visiting some of Hull’s museums in the city centre.

They then visited the Guildhall for a reception with the Lord Mayor and Admiral of the Humber, Councillor Mark Collinson. The Leader of Hull City Council, Mike Ross, and Councillor Linda Tock were also in attendance to meet the staff and pupils.

A group of students from Winifred Holtby Academy also attended the reception.

The students from China put on a traditional dance performance, as well as presented gifts to the Lord Mayor.

The visit was arranged in order to strengthen the links between schools in China and Hull, as well as offer pupils the opportunity to learn from each other.

The relationship between Hull and the Fengtai District of Beijing is one that goes back many years and continues to grow.

Councillor Linda Tock, the portfolio holder for Children’s Services at Hull City Council, said: “We were delighted to welcome the delegation of students and staff visiting us from Beijing.

“I know our young people, as well as our visitors, found it to be a mutually beneficial and valuable learning experience.”
