Foster carers in Hull receive pay increase

Hull City Council has increased fostering allowances by 4.5%.

The council has also increased the retention payment paid to carers by £100 to £500, which will now be paid annually instead of every three years.

Hull Fostering offer a generous weekly fostering allowance to cover the costs of caring for a child, ensuring its foster carers can focus on providing a nurturing and stable environment.

The increase means that the council will be able to pay its foster carers more, ensuring they can better meet the costs of caring.

Recruiting enough local authority foster carers is critical, so that children can be cared for in their own city and we can avoid children living out of Hull, which is not always what we would want for our children.

People who foster with Hull Fostering benefit from a dedicated social worker to guide and support them throughout their fostering journey. They also have access to:

  • An extensive training package to continually develop confidence and skills
  • A set-up grant to cover the start-up costs of fostering
  • Discounted leisure passes for all Hull City Council leisure facilities, including ice arena sessions, swimming, gym sessions, and golf course fees
  • An annual loyalty payment of £500
  • 2 weeks holiday pay
  • And much, much more.

Councillor Linda Tock, the portfolio holder for Children’s Services at Hull City Council, said: “The council has a duty to provide a safe and stable environment to children in care. One of those ways is through our valued foster carers.

“The uplift to fostering allowances will help provide some added support for our foster carers, who are vital in protecting and nurturing our vulnerable children and young people.”
