Residents, business owners and property owners of Newland Conservation Area and surrounding areas are welcomed to provide feedback on proposals for its future.
As part of Hull City Council’s ongoing project to reappraise all of the city’s 27 conservation areas, Newland was subject to a survey last year.
The conservation area covers part of Cottingham Road and buildings to its north and south, including land around Saint Nicholas Primary School, up to the junction with Newland Park Avenue, as well as a small section of Beverley Road and Clough Road.
The survey identified that the special interest of the conservation area is weak in places and as a result, the council has prepared four options for its future.
These are:
- Retention of existing boundary
- De-designation and moving remaining areas of special interest to adjoining conservations area
- Remove areas of negative value and retain the Newland Conservation Area
- De-designate the full Newland Conservation Area
The consultation also affects Beverley Road, Beverley High Road and Cottingham Road conservation areas.
Unlike most conservation areas, Newland does not have an adopted character appraisal.
The community can have their say on the proposals until Friday 26 June and can do so by visiting a drop-in session on Thursday 28 May from 3-7pm in the Canham Turner Building’s Hardy Conference Room at the University of Hull on Cottingham Road.
