Hull Refugee Week 2023: All you need to know

It’s Refugee Week this week (19 – 25 June 2023).  The week is an annual festival celebrating the contributions, creativity and resilience of refugees and people seeking sanctuary.

Hull Refugee Week 2023 includes events all over the city. Here’s a summary of events happening across the festival:

Monday 19 June 2023

A Celebration of artwork of refugees with an exhibition, poem writing, and sharing (cultural refreshments will be available at this event).

HACA and Fit Mum’s City Walk

Hull Afro Caribbean Association, Park Street, HU2 8RR, 6:30pm – 7:30pm

Tuesday 20 June 2023

Presentation on the festival of language, community and ESOL. Free tickets for this event are available on Eventbrite.

Brynmor Jones Library, University of Hull, 4pm – 6pm

STREAMS – A celebration of artwork created by refugee communities across our region. The evening will feature Ukrainian artist Nadia Mykhailova and Jill Howitt from Critical Fish on refugee community arts in our local history. Free admission and refreshments.

ArtLink, Princes Avenue, HU5 3QP, 6pm – 8pm

Refugee Week’s Adelphi Gig – Performers are Tristan Valentine, Andrii (Ukraine singer/songwriter), Lee Smith (Shiznitz), Cecil Jones, Joe Solo. Tickets are £6 on the door, with all proceeds doncated to Hull Help for Refugees, Hull4Ukraine and Open Doors.

The New Adelphi Club, De Grey Street, HU5 2RU, From 7pm

Wednesday 21 June 2023

Hull Help for Refugees’ crochet, knitting and sewing group will have open sessions for people to drop in.

Welcome House, Wright Street, HU2, 8HR, 10am – 12pm

Refugee Celebration Day – Event will include food from five countries, national dress, traditional music, a guest speaker, craft sessions and more.

Hull Afro Caribbean Association social event. Hot food and refreshments will also be available at this event.
