Hull City Council launch ‘Love Your Neighbourhood’ project after successful trial year

Hull City Council is proud to announce the official launch of the ‘Love Your Neighbourhood’ project, following a highly successful trial year.

Hull City Council’s Love Your Neighbourhood clean-up programme – which aims to make the city’s streets cleaner and greener – has now officially been launched following a highly successful trial year, which saw over 260 streets visited.

The project will see a team of dedicated street-cleansing staff tackle and transform neighbourhoods across Hull, working over a two-week period in each area they visit.

Improvement work depends on the nature of each area but can include litter bin repairs/replacement, graffiti removal, fly tipping clearance, grass verge edging, grass cutting, shrub bed maintenance, leaf removal, and gully cleaning.

The Love Your Neighbourhood team is committed to making Hull a better place to live in and will work across different areas of the city to make a real and visible difference to neighbourhoods.

The aim of the project is to give residents a sense of pride in their communities and encourage them to take care of their surroundings.

Councillor Julia Conner, Portfolio Holder for Environment, said: “I am delighted that the Love Your Neighbourhood trial was a success, and that we are now able to launch the initiative across the entire city.

“We are also delighted with how the project has been received, with residents telling us how happy they are with the difference the clean-ups have already made. I can’t wait to see the project evolve and flourish further.

“Thank you to everyone who has helped and supported the project throughout the trial, and for making this wonderful initiative a possibility.”

Doug Sharp, Head of Street Cleansing and Waste Management at Hull City Council, said: “Our neighbourhoods are at the heart of our city, and a clean and well-maintained environment is essential for the well-being of our residents.

“During the trial period, we witnessed a remarkable transformation in the cleanliness of the neighbourhoods our teams tackled, with litter reduction, graffiti removal, and improved waste management being just some of the positive outcomes.

“As we move forward with the project, we will ensure the reach of the scheme extends to all areas, with streets prioritised based on need and with the package of services carried out in each area altered on a case-by-case basis and in response to resident feedback.”
