17 people have been prosecuted over the condition of their property in Hull.

£12k in fines for nuisance homes and properties in Hull

A total of 17 people across the city have been handed fines totalling more than £12,000 after being prosecuted by Hull City Council for offences relating to the condition of their private properties.

After receiving complaints, council officers found properties blighted by neglect and waste that included beds, bin bags, scrap metal and overgrown trees and plants.

The prosecutions relating to the nuisance caused or the detrimental condition of the properties resulted in fines, costs and, in some instances, conditional discharges for the property owners.

Those who were sentenced at Hull Magistrates’ Court were:

  • Jessica Teresa Noble, of Meadowbank Road, Hull, was ordered to pay fines and costs totalling £592.
  • Hayley Carmen Hunter, of Fernhill Road, Hull, was ordered to pay fines and costs totalling £606.
  • Charlotte Bray, of Adelphi Close, Hull, was ordered to pay fines and costs totalling £1,113.
  • Balkar Singh, of Knockdarragh, Newry, County Down, was ordered to pay fines and costs totalling £1,614 for offences related to his property on Arthur Street.
  • Debra Lucille MacMillan, of Illthorpe, Hull, was ordered to pay fines and costs totalling £1,200.
  • Ingram Group Limited was ordered to pay fines and costs totalling £976 for the condition of land south of Grey Street, Hull.
  • Aaron Kyle McEvoy, of Ashworthy Close, Hull, was ordered to pay fines and costs totalling £724.
  • Roy Davis, of 38th Avenue, Hull, was ordered to pay fines and costs totalling £668.80.
  • Kenneth Nurden, of Bradford Avenue, Hull, was ordered to pay fines and costs totalling £710.98.
  • Billy Lawday, of Danube Road, Hull, was ordered to pay fines and costs totalling £912.00 for two offences.
  • Lisa Marie Kellaway, of Hereford Street, Hull, was ordered to pay fines and costs totalling £500.75.
  • Jodie Jane Marie Armstong, of Mersey Street, Hull, was given a 12 month Conditional Discharge and ordered to pay £200 costs.
  • Joseph Kelly, of Worcester Road, Hull, was ordered to pay fines and costs totalling £453.67.
  • Colin Thomas Brumby, of Selinas Crescent, Hull, was ordered to pay fines and costs totalling £453.67.
  • Tracey Lynne Easson, of Roslyn Road, Hull, was ordered to pay fines and costs totalling £757.33.
  • Michelle Hemmingway, of Wexford Avenue, Hull, was given a 12 month Conditional Discharge and ordered to pay £158.39 costs.
  • Anthony Fredrick Herbert, of Larne Road, Hull, was ordered to pay fines and costs totalling £758.15.

Hull City Council Portfolio Holder for Environmental Services, Councillor Rosie Nicola, said: “Abandoned waste and neglected properties are a blight on our communities and the council works hard to make sure we all have a city that we can be proud of.

“We take complaints about the conditions of private properties very seriously and these latest prosecutions demonstrate how the council is working to tackle the problem.

“We encourage all residents to report any concerns they have about the conditions of properties in their communities and remind people that the council can provide support to remove waste.”
