A series of free author events for teen and young adult events will take place across autumn, starting this weekend.

A collaborative project between Hull Libraries and Hull Waterstones, YA SPOTLIGHT will welcome four acclaimed authors throughout the October and November at Hull Central Library.

The line-up includes bestselling author Rachel Greenlaw, graphic novelist Salomey Doku, writer of riotous romantasy Morgan H. Owen, award-winning author Kenechi Udogu and critically acclaimed local writer S.J. Baker.

Organised and hosted by local author Philippa Leathley in partnership with Hull Libraries, these informal and engaging events offer readers a unique opportunity to hear directly from some of the most exciting voices in young adult literature.

Each session will begin at the library with an interview and in which each author will discuss their books, inspirations, writing process and publishing journey. After the interview, the conversation will continue at Hull Waterstones Café for a relaxed and informal meet-up, including a free drink and chance to ask author questions and have a book signed.

Cllr Jackie Dad, deputy leader of the council and portfolio holder for culture, said: “These free events are a fantastic opportunity for any aspiring writers, passionate readers and anyone interested in publishing.

“In the National Year of Reading, we are committed to encouraging our young people to be inspired by the craft of storytelling.”

Philippa Leathley, bestselling author of the Inkbound series, said: “I’m so delighted that Hull Libraries and Hull Waterstones are supporting this initiative which will hopefully inspire and nurture the next generation of writers, artists and creatives in our area.

“We have some incredibly talented writers coming to the city this autumn to share their wisdom and experience.”
