Is this Hull’s first zero-waste store?

A business in Trinity Market offering natural, organic, vegan and eco-friendly has set up a crowdfunding page in a bid to become the city’s first zero-waste store.

Customers would bring their own jars and containers to Eco Shed and fill them up, meaning no packaging – and therefore no waste. This would also makes the items cheaper as customers would only pay for the product, not the packaging.

Shared Lives in Hull

Kind-hearted Clare has shared her home with Anna for almost a year as part of the Shared Lives scheme.

Anna has cerebral palsy and came to Anna with low confidence and self-esteem. She is now thriving.

Shared Lives is a chance for people to share their home with an adult who needs support who may be in residential care or live in isolation.

Those who become Shared Lives carers are carefully matched with the person they look after and receive full training and financial support. They also have access to the network of professionals behind Shared Lives, who provide practical help and advice at every stage of the process.

Some people move in with their shared lives carer, while others are regular daytime visitors. Some combine daytime and overnight visits.

It’s Pancake Day

Hull named Rugby League World Cup 2021 host

Hull has been named as an official host city for the Rugby League World Cup in 2021. And the city is aiming to make its matches the most diversely attended in its history. RLWC2021 have announced that Hull will host a group game and a quarter-final game after a successful bid by Hull City Council. In 2021, 32 teams will compete over 64 games, with the tournament promising to be one of the most inclusive and diverse events ever hosted in England. It will promote three disciplines of the sport – with men’s, women’s and wheelchair Rugby League World Cup contested.

Hull city centre 12 key sites fly-through

The next phase in Hull’s regeneration will takes the shape of 12 key sites offering unique investment possibilities. Hull City Council’s long-term vision for the future of the city centre, following the city’s year as the UK City of Culture and ongoing ambition to be a world-class visitor destination, has been presented to investors. The plans demonstrate Hull City Council’s commitment to evolve the offer in Hull, making the city less reliant on retail and delivering a long-term sustainable city centre economy as the national picture for the high street remains challenging. The sites outline the possibility for as many as 2,500 homes and apartments to be built in the city centre, as well as opportunities for leisure and retail.
