James Dickinson, the new Head for the award-winning Hull Music Service will start his new role on Monday 15 October.
Formerly the head of the Head of Hertfordshire Music Service and the current Chair of Music Mark – The UK Association for Music Education (the body that represents music services and music educators), James brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to continue the Hull Music Services’ success.
James grew up in Hull having gone to school at Newland Avenue Primary, Newland St John’s and finally Hymers College. He also learnt the French horn with Hull Music Service and playing in his first orchestra conducted by Chris Maynard. James has replaced Chris who retired in August after 41 years at the service.
Councillor Peter Clark, Portfolio Holder for Learning, Skills and Safeguarding Children, said: “We would like to wish James the very best of luck in his new role. With fifteen years’ experience in music service leadership, eleven of which as Head of Service, his appointment is a great addition to the Hull and the Hull Music Service and I am sure he will drive the service forward, offering access to music tuition to every child in Hull.”
James Dickinson, Head of Hull Music Service, said: “I’d like to build on the brilliant work of our team that has given the service its great reputation and develop projects and initiatives meaning more of Hull’s children and young people reach their musical potential. I also have a lot of listening to do so that I can hear from everyone about their own thoughts and ideas.
“I will work with the team to make the Albemarle Centre more accessible to more young people, as well as create new partnerships and refresh existing ones to bring more opportunities into Hull and its schools. It is all about access, opportunity and excellence.”
