Hull’s library service is continuing to operate during lockdown, however services are limited due to the new government legislation.
The following services are remaining open, but strictly by appointment only –
- Select and Collect
- Computer access – for essential use only
- Bus passes – these will be processed over the phone where possible
- Parking permits – these will be processed over the phone where possible
Councillor Marjorie Brabazon, chair of Hull Culture and Leisure, said: “Hull Libraries provides a vital service to so many residents all across the city, so I’m delighted that the service is remaining open during lockdown.
“I would also like to thank staff who have put in a tremendous amount of effort to ensure that the services that are remaining open are done so safely and in accordance with government guidelines.”

The free Select and Collect service allows users to order specific titles, authors, artists or performers, or receive recommendations based on what they like.

The service also offers a growing selection of e-books, e-audio books, e-magazines, e-newspapers and e-comics. To find out more visit here.
In accordance with government guidance, Hull Libraries will record who is present inside a library at any given time, and may need to share these details with the NHS in case someone tests positive for COVID-19. All details will be stored safely and destroyed after 21 days.
The library service will not be charging fines on any items that are overdue as a result of the Covid-19 situation.
Items can be renewed online through the Hull Libraries website if users are concerned about this.
