Hull’s new Young Mayor appointment postponed

The new appointment to the role of Hull’s Young Mayor is to be postponed.

The city’s current Young Mayor, Gabriela Surdyk, was elected last May and was due to be passing the position to the newly elected Young Mayor.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, it has been decided that the appointment of a new Young Mayor will be postponed and Gabriela has agreed to continue being the young people’s ambassador for a further year.

In her role as Young Mayor, Gabriela continues to be a leading voice for children and young people on issues that affect them, working with decision makers.

Any young person interested in this role or in having a say about issues that affect them can get involved through the voice and influence team’s activities by contacting voiceandinfluence@hullcc.gov.uk.

Councillor Peter Clark, portfolio holder for learning, skills and safeguarding children, said: “Given the uncertainty due to the coronavirus pandemic, we have decided to postpone the appointment process, however I’d encourage young people to continue to get involved through the voice and influence team.”
