As part of Hull City Council’s Highways Capital Programme, essential highway improvement works will take place on York Street and Wincolmlee.
York Street and a section of Wincolmlee (between York Street and Chapman Street) has been identified to be in need of immediate repair due to the deteriorating condition of the road surface.
The scheme will involve excavating the road surface and reconstructing it, providing a safer, skid-resistant carriageway for motorists, cyclists and other highway users.
The project supports the council’s statutory duty to maintain the public highway and ensure it remains safe for everyone.
The works, which will be carried out by PBS Construction on behalf of the council, will take place from Saturday 7 November to Friday 11 December 2026.
To ensure safety, the scheme will require a series of road closures over the five-week period, including weekends, with York Street, Wincolmlee, Swann Street and Barmston Street all affected at various stages.

Residents and businesses will be notified in advance via a letter drop, which will include contact details.
Information boards will also be installed on surrounding streets to keep the public informed about the works and any temporary access restrictions.
Councillor Mark Ieronimo, cabinet portfolio holder for transport and infrastructure at Hull City Council, said: “As a council, we have a responsibility to maintain our road network, and these works form an important part of that commitment.
“These essential improvements will help ensure York Street and Wincolmlee continue to provide a safe and reliable route for all road users. By carrying out these repairs now, we can address deterioration before it worsens, helping to prevent more extensive and costly works in the future.
“We appreciate that these works will cause some temporary disruption and would like to thank residents, businesses and road users for their patience and understanding while the improvements are completed.”
Please be aware that the dates for this scheme are weather dependent and subject to change.
