Hull City Council is proud to support Gas Safety Week to remind everyone about one of the simplest – and most vital – ways to keep your home safe.
Gas Safety Week (12-20 September 2026) brings together people and organisations to raise awareness of gas safety and the practical steps that help protect homes, tenants and communities. This year, the theme is ‘Take No Chances’.
For landlords, including the council, taking no chances means keeping all gas safety checks up to date, responding quickly when something does not seem right, and making sure any gas work is carried out by someone qualified and Gas Safe registered.
Taking the right action helps protect your home and the people living in it from risks such as gas leaks, fires, explosions and carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning.
At Hull City Council, we work in partnership with Kingstown Works Limited (KWL) to make appointments with all council tenants once a year for these checks.
The check helps to make sure that your gas appliances, pipework, and flue systems are operating safely and efficiently, giving you peace of mind that your home remains safe for everyone living there and visiting.
Annual gas safety checks are a legal requirement under the Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations 1998. Hull City Council must ensure that all gas appliances that we provide are inspected every year.
Most residents keep the appointments we offer, allowing us to check their gas appliances are safe.
However, one or two do not – and it’s essential to make a new one.
If you are unable to keep the appointment offered to you, please get in touch to agree a different day and time – the contact details will also be on the appointment letter.
