Hull residents are being asked to contribute their thoughts, memories and experiences of the city’s music offer as it steps closer to submitting a UNESCO Creative City of Music bid.
The Hull Music Survey is now live and it is hoped the results will help shape the application that is expected to be submitted in spring 2027.
UNESCO Creative City of Music status is awarded to cities that demonstrate a rich musical heritage, thriving contemporary scene and commitment to integrating music into sustainable urban development.
Designation raises the city’s visibility and connects it to an international platform to share knowledge and collaborate on cultural, economic and social initiatives.
The questionnaire is also seeking contributions to a planned Hull Music Exhibition in 2028 that will showcase memorabilia from the city’s musical past and present.
This could include everything from photographs and paintings, to clothing and badges, posters, programmes, ticket stubs and autographs, as well as mementos, instruments and souvenirs.
Councillor Jackie Dad, portfolio holder for culture and leisure, said: “Music is part of the fabric of our city and we know we can be an incredibly successful UNESCO Creative City of Music.
“This survey gives us a great opportunity to develop our bid and create the strongest case for a successful application.
“I can already imagine how exciting our planned Music Exhibition for 2028 will be with the memories and experiences of our residents playing a key role in the building of it. I can’t wait to see and hear about the contributions.
“I would encourage everyone to take just a few minutes of their time to help contribute and be part of this with us.”
The Music City Survey can be completed here until Monday 14 September.
All completed surveys will be entered into a prize draw to win two tickets to The Phantoms (Starring Lee Mead) at Hull City Hall on 25 September.
