Hull’s hotspots for low and no-alcohol drinks are relaunching in time for the August bank holiday.
The long weekend will see the launch of ‘Low and No Alcohol Zones’, which will replace the former ‘Low Ale Trails’.
The update retains the three popular areas – the city centre, the Theatre Quarter and the Avenues, and introduces a brand new website, as well as some fresh venues.
Alcohol-free drinks have more than doubled in popularity since 2020*, and the choice of alcohol-free beers, spirits and cocktails continues to grow.
Dozens of pubs and bars have opted into the new zones, which must offer a selection of high-quality low- and no-alcohol options in order to participate.
Venues which are part of the zones can be identified by eye-catching yellow and black window stickers. There is also a new leaflet with a QR code linking to lists, maps and more info on the website.
Cllr Linda Chambers, portfolio holder for public health at Hull City Council, said: “We’re very excited to be relaunching as ‘Low and No Alcohol Zones’. The concept of the ale trails is enduringly popular, but the maps, website and name all needed a refresh. The offer is so much wider than ales, with our fantastic local venues offering alcohol-free lagers, IPAs, cocktails, wines and spirits.
“The bank holiday weekend is the last one before the festive season, and we know many people will be out and about in the city, making the most of it. The Low and No Alcohol Zones are perfect for anyone either planning a totally alcohol-free session, or mixing low and no-alcohol options with alcoholic drinks.
“As before, many of the venues which are part of the project also offer fantastic food, music and entertainment. The distribution across the city, with the Old Town, Avenues, and Theatre Quarter & Ferensway zones, make them accessible for every night out.”
