The world premiere of new spellbinding thriller arrives at Hull Truck Theatre later this month.
Paragon Dreams is written and performed by homegrown actress and playwright Hester Ullyart and directed by Hull Truck Theatre’s artistic director Mark Babych.
Set in a contemporary Hull over the week of the fair, Paragon Dreams features an original haunting score by emerging local composer Joe Roper. This urgent exploration of ambition, love and survival unveils the dramatic twists and turns of an apparently everyday world where nothing is quite what it seems.
Actress and playwright Hester Ullyart said: “It means a lot to be working with Hull Truck Theatre at this exciting crossroads in my career and in its history and future as one of the big players in contemporary drama.
“Theatre has to move with the times. It needs the sweat, life and immediacy of gigs, the shocking intimacy of cinema…the honesty of poetry. Collaborating with Joe Roper on a contemporary soundtrack and enlisting a playground for Jess Addinall’s mesmeric lighting designs, the ingredients are all set to make something really special.”
Mark Babych, Artistic Director at Hull Truck Theatre said: “I’m thrilled to be directing this new work from Hull artist Hester Ullyart – it is part of our commitment to developing strong and inspiring women’s voices, building exciting partnerships with independent artists, investing in their growth and talent from initial idea stage into full production – it is beautiful, brave and bold writing that offers audiences a glimpse of the continuing growth of artistic energy in this great city and we’re proud to commission Hester as part of our 10 years on Ferensway.”
This one-woman tour de force follows on from the critically acclaimed Ballad of Paragon Station.
Paragon Dreams will run at Hull Truck Theatre between Tuesday 23 April and Saturday 4 May.
Tickets cost £12.50, or £10.50 for concessions.
