These huge 1980s acts are coming to Hull

Jason Donovan, Sister Sledge and Five Star will be coming to Hull as part of The 80s Invasion Tour.

Six of the 1980s most popular acts will perform at the Bonus Arena on Friday 1 November. Martika, Hue and Cry and Living in a Box featuring Kenny Thomas will also appear.

Tickets will go on sale on Friday 5 April at 9am. Here is more on the acts:

They sold millions of records worldwide with the album We Are Family, produced by Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards. They went onto have multiple chart anthems that include the UK hits Lost In Music, We Are Family, Thinking Of You, Hes The Greatest Dancer and Frankie, which remained at number one in the UK charts for four weeks. Sister Sledge now consist of original members Debbie and Kim alongside Tanya – the niece of one of the original members.

Donovan rose to fame as Scott Robinson in Neighbours and went on to have a successful pop career with the duet with Kylie, Especially For You, Too Many Broken Hearts and Sealed With A Kiss, which all reached number one in the UK charts. He had a number one hit with Any Dream Will Do when he played the lead in Joseph & The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.

This female solo star made an immediate impact on our shores with the number five hit Toy Soldiers, released in 1989. Other hits followed that included I Feel The Earth Move, More Than You Know, Love Thy Will Be Done, which was written by Prince, and Martika’s Kitchen. She has sold a total of four million albums worldwide.

This British pop group formed as teenagers and had a string of soul-pop hit singles in the 1980s. With their self-designed costumes and choreographed dance routines, they made a huge impact on the UK pop music scene. Their debut album, Luxury Of Life, reached number 12, spending 70 weeks on the chart, selling more than 300,000 copies and earning a platinum disc. The singles All Fall Down and Let Me Be The One became worldwide hits, while System Addict became their first UK top 10 hit. The band has sold more than 10 million records worldwide.

1980s pop group Living In A Box had two gold albums.

Living In A Box, formed in Sheffield, had several hit singles that included Living In A Box that reached number five in the UK charts. Their two albums, Living In A Box and Gatecrashing, reached gold status. The band features original members Marcus Vere and Tich alongside new vocalist double platinum double award nominated Kenny Thomas.
