Hull City Council signs up to ASB PLEDGE

Hull City Council has demonstrated its commitment to taking antisocial behaviour (ASB) seriously by signing up to the ASB Help PLEDGE.

ASB Help is a registered charity set up to provide advice and support to victims of ASB.

It launched The PLEDGE to encourage all agencies involved in the ASB Case Review process – which can be launched in response to persistent ASB – to embed best practice into their policy and procedures.

The aim is to ensure that where the application of the case review process can vary across different areas, it doesn’t create a postcode lottery where access to protection and justice depends more on where a victim lives rather than the seriousness of the harm they face.

Hull City Council’s Neighbourhood Nuisance Team already employs an approach deemed to be best practice, but The PLEDGE from ASB Help further validates that victims in Hull will receive the best support and their voice will be heard.

Councillor Ted Dolman, portfolio holder for communities and community safety, said: “We know how distressing persistent antisocial behaviour can be for individuals and wider communities, and we work closely with residents, police and partner agencies across the city to take action and support victims.

“However, sadly, there are times that despite the best efforts of victims in reporting it, the ASB persists, and it’s in these circumstances where the ASB Case Review process can be valuable.

“By signing up to ASB Help’s PLEDGE, we can ensure that victims of repeated ASB are truly given a voice, and they are assured that partners will work together to try to bring matters to a satisfactory resolution.”

Angela Denison from ASB Help said: “ASB Help is delighted that Hull City Council has signed up to our ASB Help PLEDGE, which demonstrates the Council’s commitment to supporting partners in promoting best practice for the ASB Case Review.

“In doing so, it ensures that victims of ASB in Hull have a voice.”
