Annual Air Raid Service to take place

Memorial area within Hull's Northern Cemetery

The 85th anniversary of the worst bombing Hull experienced during the Second World War is to be marked during the annual Citizens Air Raid Memorial Service.

It will take place at the Memorial Cenotaph inside Northern Cemetery on Wednesday 6 May, starting at 2pm.

82 major air raids took place on Hull between 1939 and 1945, causing the deaths of over 1200 people.

The service commemorates all civilian life lost, as well as paying tribute to emergency service personnel, and particularly honours the hundreds of people who died during heavy bombing between 7 and 9 May 1941.

Attendees will hear about the lived experiences of a Hull resident who lived through the Blitz during a ceremony that will be led by the Reverend Vicky Earll.

The service is open to all and free refreshments will be available.

Northern Cemetery is situated on Chanterlands Avenue in Hull, with those attending able to access free parking at the adjacent Chanterlands Crematorium.
