The Consortium Academy Trust and Hull City Council are pleased to announce that Oakfield Special School formally joined the Trust on 1 February, marking a significant and positive milestone for both organisations.

Oakfield Special School is a Hull school which specialises in the education of secondary aged pupils with Special Educational Needs (SEND), particularly those with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs (SEMH). By converting to academy status, the school has joined a strong, local academy trust and will be a key part of their network of schools across the city and the wider region.

Ian Furlong, Chair of The Consortium Academy Trust and Lizann Lowson, CEO of The Consortium Academy Trust welcomed the school, saying: “It gives us great pleasure, on behalf of the Trust, to formally welcome Oakfield School as it joins The Consortium Academy Trust. This is an important and positive milestone, as we are joined by a school whose expertise, values and commitment to supporting children with social, emotional and mental health needs enriches and strengthens our entire community.

“We believe that every child deserves access to high‑quality education, tailored support, and opportunities that reflect their potential. The addition of Oakfield enhances our ability to deliver on that promise. We look forward to learning from Oakfield’s expertise, sharing best practice across our schools, and collaborating in ways that ensure the very best outcomes for all the young people we serve.”

Lee Morfitt, Chair of Oakfield’s Local Governing Body, along with the school’s leadership team, also expressed support for the move: “Oakfield’s Governing Body is delighted that the school has joined The Consortium Academy Trust. Bringing together our skills, expertise and experience will significantly enhance teaching and learning while expanding opportunities for staff.

“Oakfield is proud to join a Trust where strong professional connections and meaningful development opportunities are already emerging. Through sustained collaboration, colleagues across the Trust are sharing expertise, refining practice and strengthening teaching and learning, ensuring our learners receive the highest standards of education and the life skills they need to succeed.”

Councillor Linda Tock, Hull City Council’s Portfolio Holder for Children’s Services said: “I am pleased that Oakfield Special School has become an academy and joined The Consortium Academy Trust. The school is an essential part of Hull’s overall provision for pupils with SEND and joining a strong local Trust will enable them to continue to provide a high-quality education for pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs (SEMH).”
