Hull City Council’s Destination Hull manager Anthony Yates has been named in the King’s New Year Honours list for his Services to Tourism.
Anthony has worked at the council’s Visit Hull & East Yorkshire Team since 2007.
Responding to the honour, he said: “I am delighted and completely overwhelmed to have received this recognition.
“My 35-year career in tourism has taught me so much and is a continued passion that has never faltered.
“I would like to extend this honour to all the incredible teams I have worked with over the years, and in particular the staff within Visit Hull & East Yorkshire, whose dedication to the promotion of the region is un-matched.”
Leader of Hull City Council, Cllr Mike Ross, said: “I would like to extend my congratulations to Anthony who works tirelessly to promote our city and region to the rest of the world. This award is incredibly fitting for a man who has dedicated his entire career and given so much to the tourism industry in the UK.”
Chief Executive of Hull City Council, Matt Jukes, said: “Anthony is a stalwart within Hull City Council and this recognition is testament to his commitment to our area’s tourism offer, which continues to grow each year.”
Chair of Visit Hull and East Yorkshire’s Advisory Board, Chris Blacksell, added: “The work Anthony has done for Hull & East Yorkshire over the last almost 20 years shows in how the region’s tourism industry now flourishes. Congratulations Anthony, really well deserved.”
