Entries are being encouraged for a prize named after an aviation pioneer who hailed from Hull.
The Amy Johnson Cup for Courage dates back to the 1930s and is awarded to Hull-born children who have displayed courage of the highest order via a single act of bravery.
It was created by Amy herself.
Funding for it came from gold sovereigns presented to Amy by school children in Sydney after her historic flight from London in 1930, where she became the first woman pilot to fly solo between Britain and Australia.
The Lord Mayor, Councillor Cheryl Payne, is chair of the board of trustees, which assesses nominations for the award.
She said: “People in our area are rightfully very proud of Amy’s pioneering work, and it is great that part of her legacy is about showcasing something she undoubtedly was: brave.
“We haven’t managed to award the Cup for Courage since 2012, which is not necessarily a bad thing as it might suggest that no children have found themselves in such situations where they’ve to come to the rescue of someone in a critical incident.
“However, if there is a young person who has shown such bravery in the last year I would be delighted if we could honour them by awarding the Cup to them.”
Schools across Hull have received information about the Cup, including the criteria for entries.
Hull-born children aged 17 or under are eligible to be nominated, where they have displayed courage of the highest order.
It is for single acts of bravery only, and cannot be won by anyone displaying stunts or reckless actions.
The winning child will receive a prize, and will also have their photograph taken with the original Cup, which resides at The Guildhall.
Their actions are also recorded in a special roll of honour book, which is also kept at The Guildhall.
The deadline for nominations is Friday 30 January 2026.
Their single act of bravery must have occurred between 1 January 2025 and 31 December 2025.
Their act does not necessarily need to have occurred within the city boundaries, though they must have resided in Hull at the time of its occurrence.
