Love Your Neighbourhood: Footpath improvements set to begin in east Hull

As part of Hull City Council’s ongoing Love Your Neighbourhood initiative, improvement works are set to begin on several footpaths within the Longhill and Bilton Grange and Marfleet areas.

Following a recent ‘patch walk’ in these areas, 10 footpaths were identified as being in poor condition and in urgent need of repair.

In response, the council will invest in resurfacing and reconstructing key sections of the footpaths to enhance safety and accessibility for local residents.

The improvement works will take place on several streets across these areas, with the work commencing on Monday 17 November. Each piece of work is planned to last for around a week or two, with the final one expected to be completed by Monday 23 February 2026, weather permitting.

To minimise disruption, the project will be delivered in the following phases:

  • Broad Oak, from 19 Ark Royal to Golden Grove (odd side only) and Golden Grove (full length and both sides) – Monday 17 November to Monday 24 November
  • Glen Almond (Full length and both sides) – Tuesday 25 November to Tuesday 2 December
  • Camperdown (From number 4 to the side of number 8 and the side of 18 Broad Oak to number 5) – Wednesday 3 December to Wednesday 17 December
  • Charterfield (Full length and both sides) – Wednesday 3 December to Wednesday 17 December
  • Broad Oak, from Greenville Bay to Ark Royal (odd side only) – Monday 5 January to Thursday 15 January
  • Chevy Chase, Broad Oak to number 16 (odd side) – Monday 5 January to Thursday 15 January
  • Ark Royal, from the side of Asda opposite number 177 and from number 179 to opposite 153 and 155 – Tuesday 13 January to Friday 23 January
  • Green Island, from the side of number 106 Ark Royal to 103 Green Island and number 28 to 42 – Friday 16 January to Friday 23 January
  • Marfleet Avenue / Marfleet Lane, from the top of the flyover to opposite number 87 Marfleet Avenue– Monday 26 January to Monday 2 February
  • Frodsham Street, from the side of 18 Clarence Avenue to Egypt Street and from number 4 Frodsham Street to 48 Frodsham Street – Tuesday 3 February to Monday 23 February

Footpath closures will be in place during each phase, but access will be maintained for residents throughout the scheme.

Residents directly affected by the works have been notified in advance via letter.

The existing footpaths are in poor condition.

Councillor Charles Quinn, portfolio holder for environment at Hull City Council, said: “As well as keeping Hull clean and tidy for our residents, identifying deteriorated footpaths has become a crucial part of our Love Your Neighbourhood initiative

“This upcoming scheme in the Longhill and Marfleet areas will complement the footpath improvement works already completed across the city as part of the Love Your Neighbourhood programme, further enhancing the safety and accessibility of the area.

“This vital work continues to underscore that Love Your Neighbourhood is not only about caring for the environment and keeping our neighbourhoods clean and tidy, but also about making our communities safe and welcoming places to live and work.”

Councillor Mark Ieronimo, portfolio holder for transport and infrastructure at the council, added: “It is crucial that we repair and maintain our city’s footpaths, preventing further deterioration and ensuring longevity, so I am pleased to see further improvements being made in east Hull.

“I appreciate the community’s patience and cooperation as we undertake these necessary works.”

The scheme will be funded by Hull City Council’s Love Your Neighbourhood project and carried out by EC Surfacing  Limited on behalf of the council.
