As part of the Love Your Neighbourhood initiative, Hull City Council has identified several footpaths in the Beverley and Newland ward that require improvement.
The council’s continued investment in the city’s footpaths will see works take place on Emmott Road, Stanbury Road, and Windle Avenue.
These were identified during a Love Your Neighbourhood ‘patch walk’ around the Newland and Beverley ward, where the team observed that the footpaths are significantly deteriorated and in urgent need of repair.
The scheme will feature resurfacing and reconstructing areas of the footpaths. Once finished the newly improved footpaths will provide accessible, safe and even surfaces for local residents.
Works will start on Monday 25 November and are expected to be completed by Monday 16 December – weather permitting.
To reduce the impact on residents and businesses, the work will be carried out in separate phases on the following dates:
- Emmott Road (Beverley Road to Stanbury Road south side): Monday 25 November to Friday 29 November
- Stanbury Road (Internal footpath between Steeton Avenue and Silsden Avenue): Monday 2 December to Thursday 12 December
- Windle Avenue (from number 7 to 28/30): Wednesday 11 December to Monday 16 December
Please note that the above dates are provisional only. Letters will be issued to all residents affected by the works in advance or the works starting.
To allow these works to be done safely they will be undertaken under footpath closure, with access maintained for residents.
As part of this scheme, works have already been completed on Beechcliffe Avenue and Denholme Avenue.
Councillor Charles Quinn, portfolio holder for environment at the council, said: “I am pleased that the Love Your Neighbourhood team has identified these deteriorated footpaths during their patch walks.
“The work highlights that Love Your Neighbourhood is not only about caring for the environment and ensuring our neighborhoods are clean and tidy, but also about making our communities safe and welcoming places to live and work.”
Councillor Mark Ieronimo, portfolio holder for transportation, roads, and highways, added: “It is crucial that we repair and maintain our city’s footpaths, preventing further deterioration and ensuring longevity.
“So, I am pleased that the Love Your Neighbourhood team have identified these footpaths and that work to address the deterioration is being carried out imminently.
“My primary focus is the safety of all footpaths in the city and I am confident that residents in the Newland and Beverley ward will appreciate the smooth new surfaces once the work is completed.
“This scheme also aligns with our broader community plan for Hull, aimed at creating safe and welcoming neighborhoods for our residents.
“I appreciate the community’s patience and cooperation as we undertake these necessary works.”
The scheme will be funded by Hull City Council’s Capital Footway Programme and carried out by Atkin Surfacing Limited on behalf of the council.
