A campaign led by school children to ensure no youngsters in Hull are left without a present this Christmas has received a boost from Hull City Council.
Santa Squad is described by its founders as “a group of friends who just want to spread some kindness.”
It was formed at Kingswood Parks Primary, and it works in partnership with other schools across the city to collect toys, clothes, toiletries and food.
Families in need of support are asked to contact their child’s school directly, with requests then being referred to Santa Squad.
Gifts are then shared anonymously back via the schools.
A contribution to aid this great work has come from the Leader’s contingency fund.
The Leader of Hull City Council, Councillor Mike Ross, said: “It’s really impressive that this group of children is spreading such kindness at what can be a difficult time of year for families.
“Their ‘Big Christmas Collection’ has helped hundreds of people less fortunate than themselves since they formed a few years ago.
“I hope that the donation of £1,000 can be a big help, and I also encourage others to donate if they can.”
Deputy headteacher Simon Harris said: “All of the staff at Kingswood Parks Primary School are delighted to support the Santa Squad in their Christmas mission.
“We are incredibly proud of the children involved and want to say a huge well done and thank you to the children’s parents – and to everyone who donates so generously each year.
“Merry Christmas!”
Santa Squad is raising money for its campaign via GoFundMe, whilst there are drop-off points for gifts across Hull, as well as in parts of the East Riding, such as Beverley and Brough.
