Fountain Road: Council continues to address Hull’s deteriorated roads with overnight resurfacing scheme

Hull City Council is preparing to begin overnight resurfacing works on Fountain Road next week.

The scheme will improve the existing carriageway on Fountain Road between Wincolmlee and Main Street.

The intention of the scheme is to renew the failed area of the carriageway, to ensure the highway provides a safe and even surface for traffic with adequate grip and skid resistance.

The work will start on Monday 18 November and is planned to take up to two weeks to complete – weather permitting.

To maintain safety, these works will be conducted under an overnight road closure from 6pm to 6am, on weekdays only.

During the works, a diversion route will be in place via Northumberland Avenue, Barmston Street, and Oxford Street for eastbound traffic, and via Cumberland Street, Westmoreland Street, and Northumberland Avenue for westbound traffic.

The pedestrian footways will not be affected by this closure. Access for residents and emergency service vehicles will be maintained at all times and bin collections are scheduled to continue as normal.

The existing carriageway on Fountain Road, between Wincolmlee and Main Street, has failed.

Councillor Mark Ieronimo, portfolio holder for transportation, roads, and highways at Hull City Council, said: “This section of the carriageway is in poor condition, so I am happy to hear that the resurfacing work will be carried out imminently.

“Not only does this work help us futureproof our road network, but it also helps keep the road safe for all users.

“We understand that roadworks can be inconvenient, but I welcome that these works are being conducted overnight to minimise the impact on local residents and businesses.

“Thank you, in advance, to residents and motorists for their patience and understanding whilst we carry out these works.”

The scheme will be carried out by PBS Construction Limited on behalf of the council.
