Remembrance service to take place

Hull will once again remember the millions of people who lost their lives in the First World War, and subsequent conflicts, as the 106th anniversary of the 1918 armistice is marked.

At 10.25am on Sunday 10 November, a parade will leave Queen Victoria Square and move down Carr Lane, turning north at the Ferensway junction to the Cenotaph.

A service will then commence at 10:55am, and will include wreath laying.

Two minutes of silence will be observed at 11am.

The Service of Remembrance will be conducted by Rev Dominic Black, Vicar of Hull Minster, and the Bishop of Hull, the Right Reverend Dr Eleanor Sanderson.

Following the service, the Lord Mayor and Admiral of the Humber, Councillor Mark Collinson, will take the salute at the march past.

The march past will involve members from a number of veterans associations alongside serving members of the armed forces, St John Ambulance and the blue light services.

The parade will be led by the Humberside Police band.

The Lord Mayor said: “This is always the best attended of the civic events – and for me, it is the most important.

“Much of what today we take for granted was bought at a bitter cost by the sacrifices of previous generations.

“We do not forget.”
