Young People, Skills & Employability service celebrates record applications

Hull City Council’s, Young People, Skills & Employability (YPSE) team are excited to share that they received a record number of applications from Year 11 students across Hull and the East Riding of Yorkshire this academic year.

They received 5,363 ‘log on, move on’ applications from young people to continue their education, training, or employment opportunities. This marks a significant increase from last year’s total of 4,239 applications.

In partnership with the East Riding of Yorkshire Council, YPSE offers a free, independent, and impartial service to support young people in their pursuit of education and training opportunities through their website www.logonmoveon.co.uk.

The service is available to all young people, including those educated at home, allowing them to research and apply to colleges, sixth forms, apprenticeships, and other training providers.

The platform saw an incredible 66,389 site visits this year, compared to last year’s 27,717 visits. This growth reflects a rising interest in career opportunities and improvements made to the website, including a fresh design and a streamlined single-page application process for easier research and application submissions.

YPSE are committed to engaging and assisting young people aged 14 to 18 (and those up to 25 with an EHCP in Hull), as they explore their options for education, employment, or training.

YPSE’s latest available data shows that there are 570 young people aged 16 to 17 who are NEET (not in employment, education, or training). This highlights the need for professionals to continue signposting young people to the service, ensuring they receive the right support and guidance to help them re-engage with education, training, or employment opportunities.

Councillor Linda Tock, the portfolio holder for Children’s Services at Hull City Council, said: “I’m delighted to see more young people accessing this helpful and free service. I encourage any young people in the region who want to explore the opportunities available to them to get in touch with YPSE, who will be happy to help.”
