Hull City Council is pleased to announce that the majority of businesses, which were damaged in the unrest on Saturday 3 August, have reopened.
Businesses on Jameson Street, including, Lush, Specsavers, and Holland and Barratt have re-opened their doors after scenes of criminality and are delighted to welcome and serve residents and visitors once again.
Despite recent challenges, these businesses have shown resilience and have worked with the council, Humberside Police, and partners to ensure their businesses, and the city centre, is welcoming, safe and secure.
The council is delighted to confirm that Hull city centre is open for business and residents and visitors are urged to support local shops, restaurants and services.
Councillor Jack Haines, portfolio holder for communities at Hull City Council, said: “We understand that the recent unrest has caused concern among our residents and business owners.
“However, we have worked closely with police to ensure that the city centre is safe and secure, and I am proud to say that Hull is open for business.
“These businesses are at the heart of our city centre, and they are eager to welcome customers with open arms. I encourage everyone to come out and support the businesses, as they play a crucial role in the economic vitality of our city.”
David Proudfoot, store director of Specsavers, Hull: said: “Following the criminality on Saturday our team at Specsavers Hull, alongside Humberside Police, Hull City Council, and the local community, worked incredibly hard to clean up the mess and get our business back up and running as quickly as we could.
“The increased police presence in the city centre has given my team in Hull the confidence to continue working without fear.
“We have a diverse team who are all dedicated to improving the lives of people in the Hull community through better sight and hearing. Despite the distressing events, everyone in my team is passionate about returning to work and will continue to serve the community.”
Ben Garner, store manager at Lush Hull, said: “From what we’ve heard from our customers and other local businesses who’ve been supporting us through this, we’re happy to have reopened to a really great atmosphere – bringing the community out and standing for what we believe in in Hull.
“The people of Hull have really shown their true selves during this, where loads of people have been coming out and cleaning up the streets and offering to help clean up our store, and we’re so happy to welcome them back and give them a great experience.”
