The Employment Hub has celebrated welcoming its 5,000th person to benefit from the service in less than three years.
The significant milestone was reached when Abdullah Yaguba met with employment advisor Lynsey Adam.
Since Hull City Council created the Employment Hub in December 2020 in partnership with Department for Work and Pensions (DWP), it has helped thousands seeking jobs across the city.
Based on the first floor of Hull Central Library, it offers a range of services such as CV writing, interview training and techniques, advice and guidance on job searching and work placement opportunities.
It also hosts regular recruitment drives, with over 650 in attendance at last month’s event a record in the Guildhall, whilst just shy of a 1,000 people attended a bespoke event for Siemens Gamesa in the library in February.
Of the 5,000 to benefit from the Employment Hub, there have been 329 job outcomes, 1,285 social outcomes (ie CV writing, interview training) and 140 progress into training opportunities, with many more aided in a variety of other services.
Employment Hub manager, Gill Brownlee, heads a team of seven staff dedicated to helping the people of Hull find the right role for them.
She said: “To reach 5,000 people is fantastic and something we never imagined when the Employment Hub was formed less than three years ago.
“To know that so many people in Hull have benefitted from our team’s expert help and knowledge is wonderful and it really shows the amazing service and support we offer.
“We’ve received great feedback and plenty of good news stories and we will continue to work passionately to ensure our city’s employment opportunities are filled by Hull people.
“Our partnership with DWP continues and it has been invaluable for the Employment Hub.
“There is a job role suited to everyone – we even put someone forward for Santa in North Point Shopping Centre last week!”
The Employment Hub will host further recruitment drives in 2024 and currently works with Siemens Gamesa on maths, English and dexterity training for potential new employees.
Cllr Paul Drake-Davis, the council’s portfolio holder for regeneration, said: “The council is committed to reducing unemployment in Hull and ensuring everyone is given the opportunity to develop new skills and secure employment.
