The lane closures on Beverley Road have now been removed as major regeneration works to Brunswick Arcade near completion.
The closures between Norfolk Street and Trafalgar Street were removed over the weekend.
Beverley Road’s bus lanes, both northbound and southbound, are now fully reopen from today, Monday 6 November.
The Brunswick Arcade landmark building is being comprehensively redeveloped and brought back into use to reinvigorate an important area by creating new residential accommodation over ground-floor commercial space.
These building works meant lane closures were required, but now that they are nearing completion, the closures have been removed in time for the busy Christmas shopping period.
Works have been funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund and Hull City Council.
They have been completed by contractors Geo Houlton & Sons which has delivered a new frontage, replicating the original historic façade, in keeping with the Beverley Road Conservation Area and contributing significantly towards the wider Beverley Road Townscape Heritage Scheme.
The complex programme has included hand-demolition, stabilisation and structural support to neighbouring properties and high-quality conservation standard building works.
These will ensure the long-term future of this significant and prominent building.
Cllr Paul Drake-Davis, the council’s portfolio holder for regeneration and housing, said: “This has been a significant, large-scale project which will bring back into use a heritage building.
“Brunswick Arcade is a landmark on Beverley Road and one that will provide additional and much-needed residential space.
“It’s great to see it being restored to its former glory and thanks to National Lottery Heritage Fund and National Lottery players for their support in funding this project.
“The council is aware that the lane closures have not been ideal for motorists and local businesses, but we thank them for their patience and we are sure they will agree that the final outcome will bring a lasting improvement to the street.”
