Hull City Council is calling for information following a recent fly-tipping incident involving asbestos near an East Hull primary school.
This deposit of asbestos was found on Wednesday 5 July 2023 on the drain embankment near the entrance to Woodland Primary School on Flinton Grove, Preston Road, Hull.
Fly-tipping is not only a crime, but where it includes asbestos wastes, this extremely irresponsible act can also cause serious harm to health and the environment
Asbestos is classed as hazardous waste and strict controls are in place regarding its disposal at appropriate facilities with environmental permits. These strict requirements are in place due to the fact asbestos can release cancer-causing fibres into the air and ground.
Hull residents are advised to stay away from the immediate area until it is removed. Meanwhile the Council has made clear that the waste will be removed at no cost to local taxpayers.
Environmental Enforcement Officers from Streetscene Services at Hull City Council are urging anyone who might have been travelling in the area or that has any information about the asbestos found fly-tipped to come forward.
Officers are also asking the public to check their dashcam and CCTV recordings, to help find out who is responsible for this activity.

Doug Sharp, Head of Street Cleansing and Waste Management at Hull City Council, said: “We would like the public to think whether they remember seeing a vehicle in the area where the fly- tipped asbestos was found and to contact us.
“Likewise, if you have recently had amounts of cement-bonded asbestos removed recently, or if you paid someone to dispose of this asbestos for you, please contact us and help us take action against the person who may have illegally dumped the waste.”
In the meantime, Hull City Council is encouraging everyone to remain vigilant of individuals and vehicles seen transporting waste in this location or elsewhere, especially if these are quiet and secluded, and report any suspicious activity or fly-tipping witnessed.
If you currently have waste you need to dispose of, it is crucial before giving waste to anyone, to check whether they are authorised to take waste.
