Hull City Council is advising motorists and the travelling public of a road closure that will be in place for around a month from the Wawne Road exit of the Wawne Road / Bude Road roundabout, to vehicles travelling eastbound, from Tuesday 30 June 2026.
The closure will allow the council’s contractor, Hessle-based CR Reynolds Ltd, to:
- install a new combined kerb drainage system
- demolish an existing splitter island and construct a new one on the east approach of Wawne Road
- undertake resurfacing works to the carriageway.
All Wawne Road (East) eastbound traffic (including buses) will need to follow a signed diversion route via Holwell Road, Honiton Road and Wawne Road. Westbound traffic will be unaffected.
Councillor Mark Ieronimo, cabinet portfolio holder for transport and infrastructure at Hull City Council, said: “I’d like to thank residents, businesses and everyone travelling through the area for their continued patience while these important works are carried out.
“Although this phase of the scheme requires a temporary eastbound road closure, it will allow us to complete key improvements that will increase the capacity of the roundabout, improve traffic flow and enhance drainage, helping to reduce the risk of standing water on Wawne Road.
“Working closely with our contractor, we will continue to do everything we can to minimise disruption, and I’d encourage people to plan their journeys in advance and allow a little extra time while these works are completed.”
Once the new closure is in place, the current Wawne Road (North) diversion, via the emergency access road, through Foredyke Nature Reserve, will be lifted, as vehicles will once again be able to use Wawne Road (North) in both directions, as normal.
Meanwhile, work at the Ennerdale Leisure Centre roundabout is continuing to progress well.
Service diversions and new drainage are nearing completion and will allow for widening work to commence on Ennerdale North. Carriageway duct crossings have also been completed during the Ennerdale North closure.
Thomas Clarkson Way carriageway widening is continuing, with a significant portion of the widening foundation now in place.
