Hull City Council has published a Decision Record using delegated powers authorised by its cabinet, to receive two to five Afghan families. The request came from the Home Office as a result of the deteriorating security situation in Afghanistan and the impact it may have on staff, and their immediate families, who were engaged locally by British Armed Forces during the Afghan conflict.
There are no additional costs to the council associated with the decision and grant funding is available to local authorities which participate.
Councillor Rosemary Pantelakis, Portfolio Holder for Corporate Services said; “By participating in this scheme, Hull City Council is not only demonstrating its commitment as a City of Sanctuary but is also providing necessary and appropriate support to those who have placed themselves and their families at significant risk to work with and support the UK Government and British Armed Forces during the Afghan conflict.”
