Navigate, a captivating three-day light and sound event, opens in Hull city centre this week.
From Thursday 30 January until Saturday 1 February, the city centre will be illuminated with stunning and mesmerising installations including laser beams and a floating lighthouse.

Navigate will consist of four installations, Meridian, Oracle, Zenith and Pendopo, dotted around the city centre –

What is it?
Navigate is a three-day event featuring captivating sculptures and outdoor exhibits from the acclaimed Kazimier Productions.
The event is made up of four installations –
Meridian
Large beams of light will be shone from Hull City Hall and over Whitefriargate as part of Meridian. Using four powerful lasers, a visual line is created in the night sky, a point of reference for those navigating the city.
Oracle
An eight-metre lighthouse, Oracle, which has been specifically commissioned for Navigate, will float in Prince’s Dock and show the superstitions and importance placed on the weather and what it holds for the fortunes of those venturing to sea.
Linked wirelessly to meteorological sensors, the Oracle takes real-time readings of wind speed, humidity, pressure, temperature and rain.

Zenith
Queen Victoria Square will also be home to a chorus of kinetic sculptures, Zenith, producing an immersive sonic landscape of the sea.
Pendopo
Trinity Square will host the Pendopo, a sound and laser installation containing a remarkable robotic musical instrument inspired by the metallic sounds of East Asia’s Gamelan percussion ensembles.
When is it?
Navigate will take place this Thursday, Friday and Saturday, from dusk until 9pm each evening. Oracle, the floating lighthouse, will remain in Prince’s Dock for a further six week following the event.
Why is it happening?
The event has been organised by Hull City Council to celebrate the the start of the Hull: Yorkshire’s Maritime City project.
